“All the best stories in the world are but one story in reality -- the story of escape. It is the only thing which interests us all and at all times, how to escape.” ~ Arthur Christopher Benson

Read On!

Yowza! It's been a while! I'm gonna jump into the fray anyway. If you don't already have an account on www.goodreads.com, you should set one up ASAP. It's the rockingest way to keep track of books you've read, you're reading, and you want to read. If you're curious about a book, you can look it up and read the reviews from folks all over the world.  And you can get an honest feel for whether you'll like a book.

Right now it has me listed as having read 544 books. I know I've read well into the thousands, if not tens of thousands, but trying to remember all the book titles is the kicker. And then I see books I think I've read, but as I'm not real sure, I'm going to list them as "Want to Read".

What I really enjoy about Goodreads is that I can challenge myself. I can set a goal of x number of books to read in a given year, and it keeps track of whether I'm on pace to meet that goal. Right now, I'm 9% behind. Eight more books to read before I'm caught up!

Another good website is www.gutenberg.org. Want to read a classic but don't want to pay for it? In all likelihood, you can find it in ebook form here. Over 100,000 titles! I just finished reading The Count of Monte Cristo using the iBook app on my iPod, which I got FREE because it was from The Gutenberg Press. Gotta love free ebooks!

As for my book lists on Goodreads, while I'm listed as having read 544 books, I find my list of "Want to Read"s is growing by leaps and bounds. Right now I have 200 books listed as "Want to Read". There's just so much that is interesting! I catch a show on TV, watch a movie, read a book review, and I am intrigued.

Much of this list includes books on my Book Bucket List, but there are many more books whose topics I found interesting. Right now I am starting on Beyond Belief by Jenny Miscavige Hill. The structures that founded the Church of Scientology, to me, are similar to that of LDS (Latter Day Saints, aka Mormons). I remember the commercials for Dianetics when I was growing up, and I was curious about it even then. The promises that were seemingly made. And growing up in a populous Mormon region, along with encountering many small cult followings, I am intrigued.

We will see, we will see. Anyhow, I am signing off for now and promise to post in the next week. I am sure that I will have finished Jenny Miscavige Hill's book by then, and I will share my thoughts. Until then, read on!
